Customer Story: Hikma's Digital Supply Chain

Hikma Pharmaceuticals needed to serialize products, report to regulators and share EPCIS data with downstream partners across several markets. Brian Merriam, Director of IT, explains how Hikma and IndX built one process from manufacturing to the distribution center.

ABOUT THE VIDEO

Hikma Pharmaceuticals is a multinational pharmaceutical company that has worked with Engineering Industries eXcellence (IndX) since 2003. When DSCSA introduced requirements to serialize and track products through the US supply chain, Hikma partnered with IndX again, starting in 2016. Filmed at Hikma's distribution center in Lockbourne, Ohio, the video explains how Hikma chose SAP Advanced Track and Trace for Pharmaceuticals (SAP ATTP) as its global serialization repository and SAP Information Collaboration Hub (SAP ICH) to send EPCIS data to downstream partners. SAP ECC was integrated with SAP ATTP so the distribution center can scan outgoing products, capture serial numbers and pass the data on automatically. The same approach now supports government requirements beyond the US, with Hikma live in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and the EU Hub.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • End-to-end serialization: one connected process from the manufacturing site to products leaving the distribution center.
  • SAP ATTP and SAP ICH as the backbone: a global serialization repository combined with a cloud pipeline for EPCIS exchange.
  • One approach, several markets: extending the same foundation to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and the EU Hub.
  • Patient safety first: protecting against counterfeits and being ready to respond to suspect product inquiries from authorities.
