In August 2026, the FDA extended the DSCSA exemption for small dispensers by one year, from November 27, 2026 to November 27, 2027. The extra time lets the agency assess whether small dispensers can feasibly trace products electronically at the package level. The exemption is not a pause, so small dispensers should keep working toward compliance. The earlier exemption dates for other trading partners have already passed:

• May 27, 2025: Manufacturers and Repackagers
• August 27, 2025: Wholesale Distributors
• November 27, 2025: Dispensers with 26 or More Full-Time Employees
• November 27, 2027: Small Dispensers (25 or Fewer Full-Time Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians), under the extended exemption
