DSCSA Compliance Deadline for Small Dispensers

Home

Overview

The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) is a U.S. federal law designed to protect patients by requiring secure, electronic, and interoperable tracing of prescription drugs at the package level throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain via files called Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS). The goal is to prevent counterfeit, stolen, or diverted products from reaching patients.

Key Compliance Deadline

What This Means for Small Dispensers

Small dispensers have been granted temporary exemption from certain enhanced DSCSA requirements. However, they must still comply with core obligations, including working only with authorized trading partners, maintaining transaction records, and properly managing suspect or illegitimate products. By November 27th 2026, all dispensers must be capable of electronically receiving, storing, and responding to serialized product data.

What You Can Do Now

1. Confirm your small dispenser status and assess current DSCSA readiness.

2. Engage DSCSA technology vendors or solution providers early. We at Movilitas.Cloud have the experts.

3. Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs).

4. Train pharmacy staff on DSCSA requirements and serialized data handling.

5. Coordinate expectations and testing timelines with wholesale trading partners.

‍

Although the compliance deadline is still ahead, early preparation will reduce operational burden, minimize disruption, and support a smooth transition to full DSCSA compliance.
